Why Third Grace Matters So Much
Third grade is often referred to as a critical turning point in education. Before third grade, most instruction focuses on basic reading skills—like decoding words, building vocabulary, and developing fluency. But after third grade, students are expected to use reading as a tool to learn new content across subjects like science, history, and math.
If a child is still struggling to read fluently by the end of third grade, they begin to fall further behind—because nearly everything they’re asked to learn depends on reading comprehension.

What Core Reading Center Is Doing About It
At Core Reading Center, we provide free, personalized reading instruction to students in grades K–12, with a focus on those who are not meeting grade-level expectations.
Our certified educators work one-on-one and in small groups with struggling readers, using proven strategies to build:

- Confidence and joy in learning
We focus on early intervention—but we also work with older students who need a second chance at building these foundational skills.
